HISTORY OF YAZIKENT
Yazikent is situated in the Agean Region, as municipal town of Bozdogan district in Aydin city in Turkey.
According to historical researches, it is known that the first inhabitants of the Yazikent village were people of the Roman Empire. Later on Genovans took hold of the village. After Genovans the village was under the rule of Turkish Selcuk Dynasty until the Ottoman Empire conquered the whole of Anatolia.
The name of the village in the Roman Empire period remained as NEOPOLI, in Genova period as ANOPALI, in Selcuk Dynasty and Ottoman period as INEBOLU and the name was changed after the Turkish Republic was found as Yazikent which in English means Inscription City.
According to research it is known that invaluable wide range of inscriptions, old coins, statues, tombs were found related to previous civilizations around the village.
On one of the inscriptions it says;
PUBLIC PARLIAMENTARY AND SENATE HONOURS THE SON OF PAPARION EXELANCY DEMETROS MIKON AS HE LED AN ERUDITE, RIGHTEOUS, CHARITABLE LIFE AND WENT TO ROMA AS AMBASSADOR TO SERVE HIS COUNTRY FOR A LONG PERIOD
As it is seen from the history, Yazikent became a cradle to many civilizations. The town is situated between the Karincali Mountain in the east, Beyerli Village in the south, Koyuncular Village in the south and Akcay River in the west. Asar Kalesi is situated on the Karincali Mountain and believed to serve as defence castle for previous civilizations.
In 1910, schooling started in the Arabic language, where the present day municipality building was constructed.
In 1944-1945 the primary school building where the current school garden is, was constructed by the support of inhabitants of Yazikent village.
In 1968, present day primary school was constructed by the government. The town has been a municipality since 1957.
